Rising dramatically out of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea, Masada is an ancient fortress built by King Herod. It is famous as the site of the final stand of Jewish rebels against the Roman Empire.
What Tourists Actually Search For (Tips & Hacks):
The Sunrise Hike (Snake Path): The most popular way for adventurous European and US tourists to experience Masada is hiking up before dawn. They heavily search the opening times of the "Snake Path," which opens about an hour before sunrise. The hike takes about 60–90 minutes, and hikers must bring their own headlamps.
Cable Car Timing: For those who don't want to hike the grueling, steep switchbacks, a modern cable car runs to the top. However, tourists search for the operating hours because it does not open early enough to catch the sunrise.
Heat Closures: Travelers are often caught off guard by the extreme desert heat. On very hot days (especially in summer), the park rangers will completely close the hiking paths by 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM for safety, forcing all latecomers to use the cable car.
